Holistic education seeks to educate the whole person—intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, creatively, and spiritually.
While fromseedtosoapbook.com began as the home for my book on natural soap making, it has naturally evolved into my little digital nook on the web to hold all my guides—from herbal DIY to formal curriculum. All of my educational units are published under the name Learn and Nourish for Life.
This is the exclusive home for my curriculum units. To keep things organized for educators, these "Learn and Nourish" resources are kept separate from my main From Seed to Soap store. Just click on a unit to add to cart and checkout!
My goal is to provide you with instructional guides that are as practical as they are deep. I develop curriculum using nearly two decades of professional teaching and home education experience, and I only write units on topics where I have not been able to find existing quality resources. When you see a guide here, it’s because I couldn't find a version that met my standards for my own children— so I built it myself.
As a public educator, I wrote every lesson from scratch, constantly adapting to new frameworks, new teaching strategies and the needs of my students. When I transitioned to homeschooling in 2019, I realized that "public school at home" wasn't the answer for my family. We needed some structure but did not want to re-create the institutional system we left.
I began to ponder (to ruminate really) on what I really wanted to teach my children as they approached middle and high school.
What is the purpose of learning and education?
Beyond the core subjects, what skills do I want my children to carry into the world?
What wisdom do I want to pass down?
These questions became the seedbed for my units on meal planning, budgeting, and sewing. I believe that whether you are preparing a meal or constructing a garment, you are engaging in a vital form of problem-solving —and doing it alongside a parent, mentor, or teacher builds the kind of bonds that pass down life.
Teaching Lost Skills
Maybe you call it Home Economics or Family & Consumer Science?
Whether you are teaching your kids to cook, meal prep, or sew—these should not be lost skills - no matter what subject name you give them. Not only have I used these units to teach my own children - I have taught the sewing unit to over a dozen students in my community. I’ve seen firsthand how making even the simplest sewing project - a bookmark - gives a sense of accomplishment and pride.
Practical Life Skills: Master the essentials, from financial budgeting, meal planning to the art of sewing.
Maker Mindset: Encouraging children to use these skills for entrepreneurial startups, artistic expression, or simply for the joy of independence & sustainability.
Logical Instruction: My background in instructional design ensures that every guide—including my book, From Seed to Soap—is readable and easy to follow.
Ready-to-Use, Minimal Prep
Whether you are looking to teach the foundational skills of meal planning and cooking, or wondering where to start with your kids sitting at a sewing machine for the first time, these resources are crafted to lead you on a journey of learning—with as little prep time as possible.
I know your time is valuable, so I've done the heavy lifting of instructional design for you. These units are ready to print and use, allowing you to focus on the experience and the connection rather than the lesson planning.
This digital bundle provides every tool a teacher needs to lead a successful sewing program without the stress of lesson planning. Whether you are guiding your own children at home, leading a local homeschool co-op, or teaching in a formal school setting. (Lesson outlines, guides, tips and tricks, teacher supply list, student supply list, how to advertise & communicate with parents and students, etc.)
I am currently perfecting the formatting and layout to ensure a print friendly and user friendly experience.
